In what the Cruz campaign called a “celebration of women,” Ted Cruz sat down for a forum with his wife Heidi, his mother Eleanor, and former Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina.
The event took place Tuesday morning at a hotel ballroom in the liberal city of Madison, Wisconsin and allowed for voters to get to know the senator, his family, and Fiorina on a more personal and spiritual level.
Legal Insurrection has more:
In a change of pace from prior events, Cruz gave a shortened stump speech and focused on the meaning of the term “women’s issue,” itself:
“This event this morning is a celebration of strong women. One of the most frustrating things about the Democrats is the Democrats love to pigeonhole women. Put ’em in a little box [and] you have a set of issues that are women’s issues. Well, listen. I have news for the Democrat party: Women are not a special interest. Women are a majority of the United States of America and every issue is a women’s issue.”
One of the things Heidi Cruz touched upon was how lucky she was to have travelled with her parents as her father performed ministry and dentistry work on the African continent. She talked about how she learned of America’s blessings at an early age:
The event also marked the very first time Sen. Cruz’s mother Eleanor participated in a campaign event with her son.
The entire event is certainly worth watching, as the forum is probably about as unscripted as a presidential campaign is going to get at this point in the race. Eleanor’s remarks begin at approximately the 17 minute 25 sec mark:
